Lowe, Ford continue two-man race COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Reigning world bareback riding champion Will Lowe of Canyon, Texas, and newcomer Royce Ford of Kersey, Colo., continue the two-man race at the top of the Jack Daniel's World Standings, much the same way they did during the Wrangler ProRodeo Tour's winter series. As spring turns into summer, Lowe and Ford top the bareback riding world standings, with the rest of the field working to catch up. Lowe, a finalist the recent Pace Picante ProRodeo Chute-out, has $63,965 in earnings so far this year. Ford, who won the Pace Chute-out title, gained some ground on Lowe in Las Vegas but remains $6,362 behind. Another Pace Chute-out finalist, Andy Martinez of Roggen, Colo., is third. Kelly Timberman of Mills, Wyo. ($32,734) and Cody Jessee of Prineville, Ore. ($32,429) round out the top five heading into the summer run. During the winter Wrangler Tour, Lowe topped the bareback riding field with 171.5 points, while Ford was next with 147. The next rider, Cody Jessee, finished 52 points behind Ford. Ford, who is already within $2,000 of his amount needed to qualify for last year's Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, continues to add highlights to his breakthrough season in 2004. His Pace Chuteout victory is just the latest, with prior victories coming at the Dixie National (Jackson, Miss.), RodeoAustin (Texas), Laughlin (Nev.) River Stampede and Red Bluff (Calif.) Round-Up. Meanwhile, Lowe is ahead of the pace that saw him set event records for most money won prior to the Wrangler NFR ($137,379) and most money won in one season ($188,247). Through the first five months of the 2004 season, Lowe has earned $63,965, more then he had after he won last year's Pace Tour Finale. Success on the winter Wrangler Tour has translated into high rankings in the world standings; 12 of the 15 cowboys in the current top 15 competed in the Pace Chute-out. SOURCE: PRCA |
